Metal Surface Finishing for the Photonics
Photonics applications require components with high-quality materials, designs, and finishes. For over 35 years, Novation has provided metal surface finishing for the photonics with exceptional quality, service, and timely completion. With a 35,000-square-foot facility operating 24-7 and a full menu of processing capabilities, we're ready to meet your needs.
Metal Finishing for the Photonics Industry
Novation offers several processes to enhance photonic device and system components. Core benefits include improved corrosion resistance, conductivity, and reflectivity. Typical options for photonics applications include anodization, chemical conversion coating, electropolishing, metal plating, and passivation.
- Anodization: Our hard and regular anodizing processes create durable corrosion-resistant oxide layers on aluminum surfaces. Anodization meets MIL-PRF-8625 Type II specifications and is available in clear, black, blue, gold, green, purple, and red colors.
- Electropolishing: Electropolishing is an electrochemical process that produces a shiny, ultra-smooth finish on metal surfaces at the microscopic level. By clearing away a thin layer of the topmost surface, it removes imperfections such as peaks and burrs. Our electropolishing meets ASTM B 912 specifications.
- Metal Plating: Our metal plating processes adhere a thin layer of metal onto a component's surface. We offer electroplating of nickel, zinc, tin, silver, and decorative gold. We also offer electroless nickel plating.
- Passivation: Passivation strips free iron from stainless steel surfaces and leaves behind a thin protective oxide layer. Available specification options include ASTM A 967, SAE AMS QQ-P-35, AMS 2700, ASTM-A 380, and MIL-S-5002.
